BSGH Demonstrators

January 2004

Pauline Muth instructs BSGH members on the basic importance of fertilizing bonsai trees.

She convinces us by unveiling two trees, similar in all respects except that one was regularly fertilized with 'spices' or ingredients that the plant needed, and the other was not. It made for a stunning visual! Pauline's talents can be seen here.

March 2004

One of the season's most successful demo workshop sinvolved a shipment of hornbeams purchased and restyled by members. Todd was not only instrumental in securing these great trees, but also a great resource in understanding their strengths and hardiness. With the one remaining tree, Todd spent the rest of the evening crafting this bonsai-in-training on his Japanese hornbeam.

April 2004

Craig Coussins joins BSGH and offered a restyling for a 'five-fingered' yew. His idea for the tree is pictured to the right.

Craig was quick to point out to us that he usually resists making finished drawings, for the tree may not look like the drawing, often for several years after the restyling.

Here, he creates a shari on one side of the tree, making sure the end design of the tree supports a lack of foliage on that side. He gave the 'fingers' from top to an appreciative audience member! One of Craig's other hobbies is web design! Check out his site here.
