30th Anniversary Show, Bonsai Society of Greater Hartford, at The Pond House at Elizabeth Park in Hartford.

Photos of the Show!

The Bonsai Society of Greater Hartford, a non-profit educational organization, was founded in the late 1970s to promote the interest in and enjoyment of Bonsai. Our earliest members were committed to acquainting those people who were interested in bonsai with each other.Through payment of dues and other fund-raising activities, the members of the BSGH are able to bring artists from around the world to our meetings so we might learn from the best. We have the biggest and best library of Bonsai material of all clubs on the east coast.

The more experienced members of our society teach the less experienced through workshops and open houses so beginner members are encouraged in all aspects of the bonsai arts and sciences. Our members participate in the We welcome anyone interested in this fascinating art to join us.annual show and numerous other events around the area.

December 19th, Holiday Party!!!

Our annual membership meeting and Holiday Party and Auction will be held on
Monday evening, December 19th, in the Fireside Room at the William J. Pitkin Memorial Community
Center, 30 Greenfield Street in Wethersfield. The meeting begins at 6:30 pm but
members who need to heat dishes may arrive any time after 6:00 to use the kitchen to prepare
your dish. The membership meeting will include a vote on the officers for next year, a potluck
supper, and an auction of bonsai-related items donated by you, the members. The current
slate of officers all stand for re-election, as listed above. If anyone else feels that you
would like to serve, please notify one of the Nominating Committee, Jose Warden, Dave
Glazewski or Frank Brooks.
The Auction will be held after dinner. Please look through your stash to see if there
are any items you can part with. One of the main sources of income for the club is the annual
auction. The income allows us to bring you some of the most outstanding artists in the country
and beyond. It also helps us produce the annual show at Elizabeth Park to show off all the
members’ trees to the public, sharing the excitement and love of this living art. So save your
pennies and George Washingtons, so even if you don’t have anything to bring, you can buy!!

SEPTEMBER 11, WORKSHOP WITH RYAN NEIL

International Bonsai Mirai is a full service bonsai nursery located outside of Portland, Oregon. The secluded garden and incorporated school is operated by Ryan Neil, apprentice to the renowned bonsai master Mr. Masahiko Kimura of Saitama prefecture, Japan. During nearly six years of grueling study, Ryan obtained a refined knowledge of bonsai he now wishes to share with willing and dedicated enthusiasts from all corners of the world.\

Throughout the West, bonsai enthusiasts are continually offered new ideas and new methods of doing things, often about the same subject, and more often by different teachers. Although this provides people with a wonderful sample of the talent in the bonsai world, it unfortunately also leads to a lot of confusion about what is right and what is wrong. The puzzle of pertinent bonsai knowledge cannot be constructed by pieces from different
puzzles. This is why International Bonsai Mirai offers study opportunities in a multitude of forms allowing students to gain access to the full scope of Ryan’s knowledge. Ryan believes once a solid foundation of bonsai knowledge is formed the sky is the limit in terms of what any individual can achieve.

His Concepts Coarses teach students species specific bonsai care, techniques and development. He also conducts one-on-one classes to allow students to get clear, concise information. As well as the above, he also conducts study groups that allow groups of students to work on their own trees and learn. We are extremely lucky to be able to host Ryan in his fourth form of study, the lecture/demo/workshop. Please check out his website, bonsaimirai.com and see how incredible his trees are.
